I sing and play guitar in a band called Long Bone Trio and ‘Set Fire to the Things You Love’ is the title of one of our songs. The contradictory notions of destructive love and the words caved into a large piece of quarried slate with its biblical connotations somehow sat comfortably with the idea of Brody’s ADF. The words were hand caved by Robin Taylor who also plays guitar in Long Bone Trio and is an accomplished stone carver and sign writer.
The second piece of work in this exhibition was titled ‘Tales of Murder and Deceit’ and was devised as a way of giving away art work as a method of dissemination and communicating with the public on a personal level. The work consisted of a number of pocket tissues laid out in neat piles across a large table. Each tissue was printed with a short narrative text of which there were six different stories in total. The viewer was invited to take one of the tissues: each was folded so it was impossible to know which text had been selected.
